Run For the Wall

Address: 5th and Cherry Avenue
Oakley, KS 67748

Website: www.discoveroakley.com

About this Exploration:

On the Sunday before Memorial Day Weekend (two Sundays before Memorial Day) hundreds of motorcyclists and others gather in Oakley at 10:30 a.m. as part of the annual Run For the Wall trek across the United States.

The stop includes a visit to the Memorial Garden located along Cherry Avenue just north of the Fick Fossil Museum  The Garden is always open to the public.  Seven stone pillars honor those who have served in the military with some sort of tie to Logan County.

The park was dedicated in May of 2005 with 600 names listed on the Memorial and more are being added.  A few blocks away at 2nd and Hudson Avenue, in front of City Hall, you will find the American Dough Boy statue honoring those who served in World War I.
