About this Exploration:

Visitors to the Grassroots Art Center will be introduced to over 22 Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, and Texas self-taught artists who use what you and I throw away to create their yard environments. They usually begin at retirement age and work over the next 15-20 years. These intuitive, outsider artists use scrap metal, limestone, cardboard, bone, pull tabs, scrap lumber, cement, barbed wire and even chewing gum to create their own inner worlds of vision.

The featured artists were green before it was ‘in’ to be green. The center has a regional collection of permanent and temporary exhibits that will surprise, educate, and perhaps even make you laugh.

Open May-September, Monday-Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday 1-5 p.m. October-April, Monday, Thursday-Saturday 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 1-4 p.m.; Sunday 1-4 p.m. Closed holidays.
