The cemetery sits atop a glacial ridge common to this region. This military cemetery is the property of the United States Government and is maintained by the Disciplinary Barracks, and only for its use. The old name of the United States Disciplinary Barracks was the United States Military Prison. Occupants included German prisoners executed during World War II. The last known person buried here was in 1957. The cemetery is for unclaimed bodies of soldiers in the United States Disciplinary Barracks, the military prison.
To find the prison cemetery, start at the Fort Leavenworth Airport and proceed north on Sheridan Road four-tenths of a mile from Chief Joseph Loop. The cemetery is on the right.
