Event Description: Each year, the town of Hoisington puts on a fantastic Labor Day Celebration. It’s everything you’d expect in small town America -- community barbecue, Labor Day Baby Contest, kid races, 3 on 3 basketball, community sidewalk and garage sale, demolition derby, car show, outdoor dance, 10K run, flea market and one of the largest parades in the state, along with many other events.

The Labor Day Celebration typically serves as a community reminder of end points in the cycle of life -- the end of the growing season and the end of summer. It also reminds us of the beginning of the school year and football season.

Many people that have grown up in Hoisington feel this is the one time of year they can come home again and be with family and friends. It is like the return of the birds to the nest.

The Labor Day Celebration has grown over the years from the railroad’s town picnic to a 4-day celebration. To put on a celebration of this magnitude requires many, many volunteers. Although the volunteers are becoming noticeably older, many younger members of the community are stepping up. This is a time-honored tradition that must not be allowed to die, so we encourage the younger generation to participate.
