The lake is well known in the area for its excellent fish population of sunfish, channel catfish, crappie, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, walleye, and wiper. The lake has an aggressive fish management program that focuses on sustainable quality and quantity. Harvest regulations allow fish to grow to a harvestable size while providing excellent catch and release fishing.Playground equipment, fishing dock, and a shelter with picnic tables and barbeque grill are also located at the City Lake. Stop by the Gridley City Hall, Nancy's Groceries, or Rodger's Oil Company, all located on Main Street, to purchase fishing permits.
