About this Exploration: You will love the Lustron! Great Bend has been designated the "Lustron Capital of Kansas". Eighteen, pre-fabricated, all-steel homes popularized after World War II, were built in Great Bend. To see examples, drive by these compact, efficient houses:

The Barton County Historical Society Museum & Village has a Lustron house open for tour. Winter hours Tuesday-Friday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Summer hours Tuesday-Friday 10 a.m.: Saturday-Sunday 1 p.m.-5 p.m.
