The First Watermelon Carnival in the state of Kansas, and possibly the world was held in Clyde in 1899. 

Now sponsored by the Clyde Chamber of Commerce, the tradition of yesteryear continues with a Saturday morning Parade and a Free Watermelon Feed on Main Street, just like the very first festival.

The Clyde Watermelon Festival is now a 4-day celebration, beginning with a Chuckwagon meal and entertainment on Friday. Saturday events begin at 6 a.m. with a pancake breakfast served at the Fire Station. The Largest Watermelon Contest, occurs before the parade. Immediately following the parade is the Baby Parade and Bed Races.

You can have lunch at the VFW, served by the Knights of Columbus and Lady's of St. John the Baptist Church.  Did any one say “Homemade Pie”, or if a German Beer Garden with Brats and German Potato Salad sounds good  Clyde Cafe will be open all day serving several specials. At 2 p.m., get ready for the best Demolition Derby action known to man when you and everyone in the crowd pick your winning driver and cheer him on.

If something a little more subdued is more to your liking attending the Concert at the Historical Society will be your cup of tea.

The evening meal served at the VFW Hall is followed by the Free Watermelon Feed and a Dance.

Events on Sunday and Monday include softball games, Fireworks Display, a Home-Made Ice Cream Social, Non-Denominational Church Service, children's games, horseshoe and golf tournaments, a unique Road Rally and a concert under of the stars.

Clyde offers events for all ages and welcomes everyone to attend this fun-filled weekend.
