El Pueblito and El Charro showcase more traditional Mexican cuisine. While The Red Pepper is Tex-Mex at its best. Chanute's first Hispanic settlers came here to work on the railroad and have stayed to become an important piece of the fabric of the community. Part of their heritage they shared was their food. They also began the Mexican Fiesta, now in its 99th year, to celebrate their heritage and share it with Chanute residents. The Mexican Fiesta is held on the second weekend of September annually.
