Here is the Dedication ceremony of the Ice Age Monument on May 19, 2012
 
George is a graduate of Blue Rapids High School and a retired palentologist.
 
He commissioned this work by the Bailey Construction to depict the geological significance of the Ice Age of the area.  The Sioux Quartzite, was originally deposited as sand in the riverbeds, buried, and still later, deep underground- made extremely hard by heat and pressure.  The quartzite formed over 1.5 billion years ago.
 
Glaceirs picked up pieces of these rocks from southwestern Minnesota, at the edge of the extremely ancient Canadian Shield, and brought them nearly 300 miles to northeastern Kansas.
